The parish administrator manages the day-to-day business operations of the parish and provides direct supervision of the volunteer office assistants and weekly cleaning service. Responsibilities include administrative support to staff and parish committees; design and production of service bulletins and announcements; maintenance of the parish calendar, supervision and scheduling of building use, and vendor management. She or he also acts as on-site contact for maintenance and improvement projects, which will be especially important as the parish prepares for a capital campaign and eventual construction. The administrator has regular and frequent interaction with members of the parish, representatives of the Diocese of Washington, the neighborhood and general public. The administrator works with the part-time bookkeeper and volunteer treasurer to monitor accounting and stewardship.The administrator reports to the rector and is evaluated by the rector and personnel committee annually.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in office administration and a willingness to learn and utilize new technologies. Helpful experience includes working in a church environment or a familiarity with the Episcopal tradition, experience in training, coordinating, and working with volunteers; and experience in all aspects of general office administration, including office/building management, contractor supervision, communications, and financial management.
Above all, the search committee is looking for someone who will drive improvements to the effectiveness and efficiency of parish operations and who will contribute to the continued growth of the parish. The successful candidate must have advanced skills using computers and standard office software. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, and Excel are required. Experience using ACS or another database system is helpful; and willingness to learn and grow is essential. Some website coordination and posting is required, so any experience with content management websites, facility with images, and basic use of html formatting is helpful. Experience with Adobe InDesign is also helpful.
Compensation and Benefits The parish administrator is a full-time (Monday through Friday) position. Compensation is based upon experience and skills. Compensation commensurate with experience including health and pension benefits and is consistent with Diocesan guidelines.
