The Reverend John Beddingfield was called to serve as Seventh Rector of All Souls Parish September 1, 2007. Prior to All Souls, Father Beddingfield served as Curate at the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin in New York City and as pastor of several Presbyterian churches.
A native of North Carolina, Father Beddingfield studied economics and religious studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Master of Sacred Theology from the General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church. He is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Ministry program in congregational development at Virginia Theological Seminary. His doctoral thesis concerns "beauty as a means to action" and draws deeply from Franciscan theology and spirituality. He is also a novice in the Third Order Society of St. Francis (of the Anglican Communion). On late afternoons or on his day off, John can be found walking in Rock Creek Park, at the gym, or exploring the art and history of Washington, D.C.
After eleven years together, in April 2010, John and Erwin de Leon's relationship was recognized in civil marriage in the District of Columbia.
