Formation for Children & Youth

Formation for children is offered downstairs during the 11 a.m. Mass, and is coordinated by our Christian Formation Leader, Brian Smith

The Nursery is for infants, toddlers, and early learners who are engaged through stories, crafts, and other age-appropriate lessons and activities.

Sunday School is for older children beginning to ask and explore bigger questions about faith, worship, and discipleship.  Education for participation in the liturgy, as well as opportunities for service and outreach, are also introduced.

The High School Group gathers monthly to explore and enrich their faith, and to prepare for Confirmation, if desired.  We also support the formation of our high school youth through a variety of service projects and programs in the mission field, including but not limited to those offered by the Diocese of Washington, DC.

In all of our programming we strive to incorporate children and youth into our worship life, and draw from the diverse resources and curricula for youth formation in the Episcopal tradition.

New Adult Forum Series:
Living Our Liturgy

Sundays at 10 a.m. beginning January 7

While we come as individuals from a variety of backgrounds and week-to-week ways of life, our liturgy binds us into one using words and practices that are many hundreds or thousands of years old. Some of these words and rituals we understand, some we do not, and some we can not! This winter and spring our 10 a.m. Adult Forums will focus on a wide range of topics and questions that will help open up the mysteries of the liturgy and give us opportunities to share our own questions and experiences. Appropriate both for those who are new to our traditions and those who are interested in deepening their understanding.  The first collection of forums will rely on the text Beyond Smells and Bells by Mark Galli. Those who are not able to participate in the forums are encouraged still to read the book. Several Saturday mini-retreats will also be offered over the next several months as another way to participate (details TBA).

Women's Lenten Retreat

March 24, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Women’s Group is sponsoring a Lenten retreat at the Claggett Center, Buckeystown, Maryland. We have reserved a room for gathering and a time for an end-of-day Eucharist at their extraordinary silo chapel. This is a refreshing place to be for a quiet day with rolling hills, an outdoor labyrinth, and trails to follow in the woods. Cost: approximately $32 (includes lunch). Transportation will be provided.

If interested, contact Mother Elizabeth or Linda Mahler.
