About reading the Scripture

Though the Episcopal Church is not always thought of as a "Bible Church," between the Daily Office and the readings of scripture on Sundays, we often cover much more scripture than some churches who talk a lot about the Bible.  We also value the public reading of Holy Scripture, understanding that the reading of Scripture is not a performance, nor a newscast, but the solemn proclamation of the Word of God.  As the Word of God, it can stand very well on its own and needs no embellishment. 

At All Souls, a number of people volunteer to serve as lectors at our Sunday Low Mass and our Sunday High Mass.  At our weekday Masses, the arrangement is less formal and a volunteer emerges from the congregation.
