Stewardship has to do with how we spend our time and how we spend our money. It has to do with our willingness to share.
While our parish relies on the help of volunteers and the willingness of various people to contribute things and energy, the backbone of our stewardship is the pledge of our income.
A financial pledge is different from contributing to the music, the candles, the Rector’s discretionary fund or one of the capital projects. Our annual pledge campaign actually determines the scope of our ministry for the next year. Especially in a time when we are searching for a new Parish Administrator and a new Music Director and Organist, I urge you to help us make a strong showing this season.
I remember talking about stewardship a while back with the Right Reverend Richard Grein, XIV Bishop of New York. Bishop Grein said, “When it comes to stewardship, I simply ask people one question: When have you ever seen a generous person who wasn’t happy?”
The bishop is right. Whether we are rich or poor or somewhere in-between, generosity leads to joy. It really is that simple: it feels good to give, and there should be no shame in our enjoyment of that feeling. It is a joy that is encouraged and blessed by God.
Whether you are an official member, a newcomer, a friend of the parish or an occasional visitor, please know that your support is essential to our witness in Woodley Park, in the city and in the world.
Please prayerfully consider your pledge to All Souls and help us grow in mission and in witness to the love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
